Monsters University: 10 Reasons You Should Be Excited

1. It's Pixar

I mean come on, it€™s hard not to get excited about any of their projects. Since they revolutionised family cinema with Toy Story, the first (and still one of the best) animated feature films, they have gone on to only get better and better. Rivals Dreamworks may have occasionally come close to their heights (most notably with How To Train Your Dragon), but, aside from being nowhere near as consistent, their films just lack that emotional spark that Pixar€™s have. Cars 2 aside (which we can now take as a momentary blip on an otherwise sterling record), every one of Pixar€™s films has been a brilliant experience, balancing humour and pathos with an expert hand. Each one has a unique style, both in tone and visuals, and it€™s telling that even a middle drawer effort, in the form of Brave, is still one of the better films of the year. It€™s hard not get excited about of their films, with sumptuous animation that manages not to date because the innate visual sense, with great character and world designs, keeps it fresh. With trailers that manage to give a sense of the film without delving too much into the plot (although Brave did manage to give away its big bear transformation), you€™re guaranteed a fresh, unpredictable experience. Even with the likes of Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Lone Ranger in the pipeline for 2013, Monsters University is most certainly the film to start getting excited for now. What do you think? Is Monsters University going to be one of the greats of 2013, or is the prequel a step too far for Pixar? Have your say in the comments below.
