10. Theres So Few Films About University
Many films focus on the lead up to University, but most cut just before freshers week kicks in. The amount of High School movies is ridiculous; its no surprise late teens is probably one of the most over documented times of life in cinema. As a University student, its irritating how little coverage student life gets in movies. There are a few absolute gems; Animal House and Old School play up the debauchery and Channel 4s current Fresh Meat provides a TV alternative, but most films set at University tend to deal with either a closed in relationship (Good Will Hunting) or the wider world (The Social Network). As we know the two key players well already, theres an opportunity here for the film to use some of its time to explore University life, with the satirical bite youd expect from Pixar; the first Monsters lampooned the daily grind so well, the second is a good opportunity to do the same for students. Looking at the newly unveiled
Monsters University in-world website, it looks like the film is ready to lampoon many a myth, presenting a freaky twist on the stereotypical university campus. As it's the first part of a viral campaign, its hard to tell, but this film might be the rare thing of a film not just set at university, but about it as well.
