Moonfall Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
2. The INSANE Third Act
No spoilers here, because you really should experience Moonfall's absolutely nutty third act for yourself free of any spoilery giveaways. Hell, avoid watching the more recent trailers if you can.
If the film's fairly ho-hum first half implied it wouldn't be doing much memorable or entertaining with its premise, strap in for the film's gas-huffingly deranged third reel.
It's at this point that Emmerich basically cuts loose any tether the film has to "reality" - extremely loose though it already was - and just says "f**k it, let's see what we can get away with."
What follows is shamelessly absurd and yet also by far the most interesting and imaginative part of the movie.
It doesn't really make a lick of sense and opens the film up to even greater derision, but it does ensure this becomes a different beast from Emmerich's more "grounded" disaster yarns, even if it's still not particularly good.
