Moonfall Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

4. The (Mostly) Impressive Visual Effects

Moonfall Moon
Lionsgate

Though there's so, so much wrong with this movie, it does at least live up to the basic expectations of a Roland Emmerich film as a snazzy visual feast.

Not all the effects are fantastic - especially an horrendous-looking third act car chase - but for the most part the CGI focused around space, global destruction, and the Moon itself are all quite remarkable.

It's clear where most of that budget's been spent, and while there's little here you haven't seen done better in other films - beyond the awesome "gravity wave" sequence teased in the trailers - there are many visually dazzling moments that more-or-less justify watching Moonfall on the big screen.
