Morbius Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs
Ups...
3. Jared Leto's Solid Lead Performance
Much as many might not want to admit it, Jared Leto is a gifted actor when paired with the right material, and while this certainly isn't a ripe showcase for his talents, he's at least trying his damnedest to elevate the script.
This is far from the hammy, over-the-top Leto we've seen in recent times as The Joker and Paolo Gucci - there's actually a surprising restraint to his portrayal of the sunken-eyed, sepulchral Michael Morbius.
There's little in the way of mugging or scenery-chewing from Leto and it's clear that he's made an earnest effort to portray the internal turmoil of a man suffering on the fringes of existence.
There are many, many problems with the film, but he absolutely isn't one of them.
