Morgan Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

1. That Incredible Paul Giamatti Cameo

Morgan Paul Giamatti
Fox

Yes, Paul Giamatti is in this movie. He shows up halfway through as a psychologist sent to evaluate Morgan's state of mind, and absolutely runs away with the film in a 10-minute sequence that's among the movie's few scenes that totally works.

Giamatti brings intensity to the role, and while he's clearly just here for the payday like everyone else (his character even says "I want to get this over with as fast as possible"), he sure as hell doesn't phone it in.

The fact that he's working opposite the movie's other prized asset, Taylor-Joy herself, makes his scene effortlessly compelling, and a prime example of the sort of psychological intensity the movie should've been more concerned with. Instead, it's a jarringly brilliant scene in an otherwise thoroughly mediocre movie.
