Morgan Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

6. The Atrocious Fight Scene Editing

Morgan Kate Mara
Fox

Morgan's bursts of violence are horrendously directed by Ridley Scott's son Luke, who has clearly graduated from the Taken 3 school of "edit the fighting into oblivion to disguise the bad choreography".

The numerous fight scenes in Morgan's third act employ an almost seizure-inducing number of cuts: one character punches another and we apparently need about a dozen spliced shots to convey it to the audience, the result of which is both annoying and completely incoherent.

One can try and blame the movie's editor, Laura Jennings, but it's much more likely that she merely had to make the best of what Scott delivered to her, especially considering the last movie she edited was the terrifically-cut Edge of Tomorrow.
