Morgan Review: 3 Ups & 7 Downs

1. It's Basically A Poor Man's Ex-Machina

Watching the film, it's hard not to feel a distinct pang of deja vu, as stylistically and thematically, the film is rather similar to last year's outstanding sci-fi thriller Ex-Machina.

Without saying too much about specifics, both plots revolve around a unique creation who is locked inside a facility to be experimented upon, before things go haywire and the creation attempts to escape.

The mood and tone are also extremely similar even if some ideas are different, though Morgan is basically inferior in every single way (except perhaps for having more name actors in it). If Ex-Machina wasn't so fresh in the mind and not as great as it was, then perhaps the prevailing feeling that this is an ersatz imitation wouldn't feel so pronounced.
