Mortal Kombat: 10 Actors The Reboot Needs

6. Ken Watanabe - Shang Tsung

Ken Watanabe is best known to Western audiences for his role in The Last Samurai, and more prominently, as Sato in Inception, and Ra's al Ghul's decoy in Batman Begins. In all of these parts, he demonstrated a sure physical intensity, and in the latter two, a convincing streak of villainy that was imposing and unsettling. He's a fantastic, chameleonic actor who is capable of a lot of different types of roles; as a scenery-munching villain, though, we think he could have a Hell of a lot of fun here. Of course, he'll have a certain legacy to live up to; one of the bright spots of Paul W.S. Anderson's original Mortal Kombat film was Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's hilariously campy, over the top performance as Shang Tsung, milking the import of every line for all it was worth. However, an actor of Watanabe's character can surely meet, even exceed that portrayal, so there's nothing to worry about.
