Mortal Kombat 2021 Movie: Everything We Know

2. Fatalities And Official Rating

One worry on any Mortal Kombat fan's mind would be the rating the film would receive and how it would depict the fatalities from the game series. Fatalities are arguably one of the most recognisable aspects of Mortal Kombat and to say the portrayal seen in the 90s films was disappointing would be an understatement.

But fans need not worry, as writer Greg Russo did in fact tweet out confirmation that fatalities would be in the film and the film would be R-rated! This shouldn't be too much of a surprise though, considering James Wan has experience with grotesque gore from his time with the Saw franchise.

There's no confirmation on which fatalities we'll be seeing in the movie, but here's hoping that we get to see some of the more classic fatalities, such as Sub-Zero's Headrip fatality. Still no word on anything such as friendship or animalites, but you never know what we could see!

Greg Russo also confirmed in an interview that the tone will be a mixture of serious and fun, citing Deadpool as an inspiration. While Mortal Kombat usually has quite a serious story, characters such as Johnny Cage have always been used to ligthen the tone and provide some comedy to the games.
