Mortal Kombat Movie Trailer: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

So outside of the theories that Cole Young might be an alternative name for the bombastic star, it seems that Johnny Cage won't be appearing in this picture.

In the build-up to the trailer's release, his name was noticeably absent from casting announcements and promotional material. Still, fans of the wise-cracking goof were holding out hope that he'd appear, seeing as he's such an essential part of the franchise. Sadly, this trailer finally reveals that he's sitting this one out.

Now Johnny wasn't the only noticeable absence, as Katana also wasn't shown. However, Cage has always been one of the champions of Earthrealm, so when they announced that line-up without him, it was a far more damning sign than not showing Katana - who could still easily drop into the flick.

While there's hope he might turn up in later sequels - if they happen - it's still extremely disappointing that this iconic and essential character isn't going to be appearing in the film. Hopefully, they are just messing with us, and somehow the character will pop in to bring some much-needed humour to the deadly Mortal Kombat tournament.

The movie releases on April 16th - hopefully - in cinemas and on HBO max, so we will have to find out then.
