Mother's Day 2013: 10 Movies For Guys To Watch With Their Mums

Casablanca

CasablancaWhy you'll love it: Perfect. It's the first word that comes to mind when discussing Casablanca. The movie is perfect and perfect movies make for perfect viewing. Humphrey Bogart has always been a favorite for the fellas and this was his most iconic role. During his time, there was simply nobody cooler than Bogie (there probably still isn't) The reluctant hero. Think on how many great movie characters that have come in the wake of Rick -- they wouldn't exist without this blueprint. He doesn't even get the girl at the end but everything he does is for her. That's a grown-ass man right there. Putting yourself and business at risk while battling Nazis, only to let the girl go because it's what is best for her. Dynamite. Why mom will love it: This is one of the all time great movies. Seriously, very few can call themselves better films. Humphrey Bogart always appealed to women as well (it was that, suave yet rugged charm). A terrific, layered story full of intrigue and espionage. Set mostly in a Moroccan night club, the movie never feels flat or static. It's a truly great film with one of the greatest love stories in film history. A devastating, heart wrenching movie that still feels uplifting by the end. Did I mention that the hero goes through hell for the girl he loves only to give her up at the end, for her safety?

I'm married and live in New York with my wife and pets. I'm a writer and definitely not a comedian (just ask my wife). I've successfully linked my twitter, goodreads, facebook and google+ pages although the successful aspect of all that is up for debate. I also started my own blog on wordpress and have just finished my first novel, The Violent Winds. Now it's time to try and trick some unsuspecting fool into buying it.
