20 Movies That Could've Been Horror Movies
17. Perfect Sense
The criminally underappreciated romantic sci-fi drama Perfect Sense follows two lovers (Ewan McGregor and Eva Green) caught in the midst of a global epidemic which progressively robs people of their senses one by one.
Though the film is focused more around the tender central relationship, conceptually its world is absolutely horrifying, especially as the loss of each sense is preceded by an intense feeling - such as an overpowering urge to eat before taste disappears.
The disease's global rampage is treated as unstoppable, leaving humanity to simply try and adapt as best possible while some senses remain.
To be clear, there's no sudden cure by film's end, simply the somber implication that the entire population will lose most if not all of their senses in short order, condemning everyone to a grim fate.
And of course, it's inevitable that not everyone takes the affliction with grace - to say it causes violent panic is quite the understatement.
This all adds up to a uniquely terrifying scenario - the prospect of being locked in your own body with all your senses depleted until you eventually die.
