5. Liu Yifei as Mulan

After an extensive casting search, Chinese-American actress, Liu Yifei, landed the role of Mulan and it is clear to see why. Yifei's Mulan is every bit the determined warrior many of us grew up watching in the original animated film - a young woman who dared to defy - and then some.

Nicknamed, 'fairy sister,' for her sweet, delicate looks, Yifei looks every bit the Disney Princess but this trailer proves there is so much more to her than that. Even in the space of this short teaser trailer, Yifei's Mulan grows from a quiet but determined daughter desperate to please her family - "I will bring honour to us all" - to a warrior ready to defend her country.

Yifei seems to handle this with ease, taking every step of Mulan's journey in her stride. Short glimpses of Mulan's warrior skills - archery, sword fighting, and horse riding to name a few - seek to prove Mulan is not a character to be messed with. In what appears to be a serious take for Disney on The Ballad of Mulan, Yifei assuredly seems to be the perfect choice for the role.
