The Muppets: Ranking Every Movie From Worst To Best

4. The Great Muppet Caper

It's surprising that the only Jim Henson-directed Muppets movie was also the sappiest in terms of its overall message. Themes of compassion and togetherness were tent-poles in Henson's ideology and work with the Muppets, but given free rein they become a little irritating. Not to the detriment of the film however, at least in scope. Whereas the original boiled down to being a road trip movie (and a good one at that) The Great Muppet Caper boasted a bigger and bolder plot concerning thieves and robbery. It was a brave move on Henson's part and his vision should be commended at least, but his true genius lies in his performance - displaying an everlasting talent for puppetry and emotion. The characters are as lovable as always, but it wouldn't have been a bad thing if the whole thing had been toned down from sickly-sweet to something more palatable.

I love all things imaginative, from the page to the screen, and nurture a soft spot for Donald Sutherland and Daniel Bryan.
