8. Up: It Can Stand Alone As A Movie

One of the biggest draws of this movie is how it seems ready to put down a lot of the baggage of making a standalone film from such a full anime with five seasons worth of lore, making it perhaps the most newcomer friendly of the My Hero Academia films.

This is the film that is made superior by knowledge of the series, but isn't a prerequisite to enjoying it like with previous entries.

It's light on flashbacks and narrated explanations about Deku's history with All Might, instead choosing to revisit his motivations, have All Might as a presence during this film, and explain only that he's now Deku's teacher.

Though it has all of Class A present at one point or other, it doesn't dwell on them for too long, instead keeping its focus on Bakugou, Shouto, and the relationship between Deku and newcomer Rody Soul.

One of the best things about this film is how it simply trusts audiences to understand it instead of sitting down and explaining every minute detail the way the series often does. And for all its flaws, especially to longtime fans hoping to see more of their faves, it works.
