1. Hamlet (1961)
Summary: Hamlet. One of the most timeless works of the English language. This German television edition tells a pretty faithful account of the story - that of Prince Hamlet, and his revenge on his uncle for murdering Hamlet's father, the King of Denmark.
Why It Stinks: Regardless how you feel towards Hamlet, or Shakespeare in general, there is absolutely no doubt this is the worst adaption ever made. Pity, because it should have been pretty good! Maximillian Schell on film and the voice of Ricardo Montalban in the dubbed edition. Wow, what a line-up! Alas, 'tis not to be. This version plays out far too slowly, the lighting is incredibly bad, the dubbing is even worse, and even Maximillian Schell gives an uninspired performance as Hamlet. By "uninspired" I mean he pretty much only makes one facial expression throughout the entire movie (Strangely, he won an Academy Award For Best Actor the same year for his stellar performance in Judgment At Nuremberg).
Best Riff: There is none. This is a woeful undertaking, and not even the riffing can save you the torment this movie brings. Don't believe me? Alright tough guy, here's the link to the movie. The
whole movie! See how far you can make it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8rxZDB8LNw
