Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5: Everything You Need To Know

8. It's Going To Be Set After Aliens

How to fit Weaver into another instalment of the franchise is going to be tricky. The much derided Alien Resurrection cast her in her 40s and set the film some 200 years after Alien 3, but if Blomkamp's assertions over the setting are to be believed then he might be in for a logistical nightmare. €œI want this film to feel like it€™s literally the genetic sibling of Aliens" he revealed in an interview with Sky News, "so it€™s Alien, Aliens, and then this movie". While fans of the series are already scratching their heads over quite how he'll do that already, it's worth noting that there's a lot of ambiguity in that sentence. Firstly he wants it to "feel" like the other two. This could simply mean that he's hoping simply to replicate the nightmarish tone, which it could quite easily two without necessarily being a direct continuation. However he approaches it, picking up the reigns after the second film is a smart move. The general consensus still standing that the third and fourth instalments never really did the story, Ripley, or the Alien the justice they deserved.
