Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5: Everything You Need To Know

3. It Won't Affect Prometheus 2

The links between Ridley Scott's Prometheus and the Alien franchise aren't exactly subtle, but despite Fox considering them all to form part of one cinematic universe it's never been made clear just how faithful fans of both series can expect them to be to each other. Thus the news of a new Alien film, combined with the disappointing reviews Prometheus got, raised some questions about the latter continuing as a series. Ridley Scott had gone on record to say that he had hoped to make a fifth instalment of his Alien franchise one day, but when last he was heard from he was still beavering away on the new Prometheus movie and had just finished a script he was happy with. Despite public opinion suggesting he should chuck that straight in the bin and get on board with Blomkamp's production instead, Fox remain committed to Prometheus 2. Despite being in development for over two years there's even less know about Scott's sequel. The suggestion has been previously that he'll look to move the film even further away from the xenomorph angle of the story and instead breathe new life into their shared universe. How news of Alien 5 will influence his thinking remains to be seen.
