New Batman Movie: 10 Ways to Reboot Nolan’s Batman Continuity

4. The Dark Knight Returns

At the climax of TDKR I remember thinking to myself €˜surely the police will struggle with all of those Blackgate escapee€™s, now that Batman has decided to hang up his cape€™. I mean, there were a few shots here and there of the GCPD rounding up the stragglers, but I remember there to have been hundreds, maybe even thousands of the buggers. So how about this for a reboot of Nolan€™s continuity. These escaped Blackgate prisoners end up banding together to form a supergang. After being led by such a powerful and charismatic foe as Bane, they look to appoint a new leader, one who€™s equally as big, equally as fierce and equally as charismatic. With this new leader in tow, the Blackgate escapee€™s dub themselves €˜The Mutants€™; the gang you€™ll see in Frank Miller€™s eponymous Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. In that book, Bruce Wayne also returns from retirement, and although it was referenced at points in TDKR, I could see the whole thing being easily adapted and moulded to fit with Nolan€™s current continuity. And what could be better than a live action adaptation of possibly the best plotline in one of the greatest Batman stories ever written?
