4. The Dark Knight Returns
At the climax of TDKR I remember thinking to myself surely the police will struggle with all of those Blackgate escapees, now that Batman has decided to hang up his cape. I mean, there were a few shots here and there of the GCPD rounding up the stragglers, but I remember there to have been hundreds, maybe even thousands of the buggers. So how about this for a reboot of Nolans continuity. These escaped Blackgate prisoners end up banding together to form a supergang. After being led by such a powerful and charismatic foe as Bane, they look to appoint a new leader, one whos equally as big, equally as fierce and equally as charismatic. With this new leader in tow, the Blackgate escapees dub themselves The Mutants; the gang youll see in Frank Millers eponymous Dark Knight Returns graphic novel. In that book, Bruce Wayne also returns from retirement, and although it was referenced at points in TDKR, I could see the whole thing being easily adapted and moulded to fit with Nolans current continuity. And what could be better than a live action adaptation of possibly the best plotline in one of the greatest Batman stories ever written?
