New Ben-Hur Chariot Race Clip Promises The Worst Remake Of 2016

Ghostbusters, shmostbusters.

Ben Hur Toby Kebbell
Paramount Pictures

It's incredible that when a major Hollywood studio goes about remaking one of the undisputed all-time greats, one that won 11 Oscars when it was released and still holds up today, people get all up in arms about a new Ghostbusters. Seriously.

I get that some people weren't amped for Paul Feig's remake (even if it turned out to be totally, unequivocally fine), but to throw a strop over what was essentially a silly action comedy when they're remaking BEN-HUR is so negligent it's almost as bad as funding the damned thing. And if I sound a little hyperbolic, just check out this new clip that shows how this movie's tackling the iconic chariot race:

They finally, really did it. You maniacs. You blew it up! Damn you. Damn you all to hell!

Wrong Heston movie, but the sentiment's right. What the f*ck is that? It's all over the shop, with lazy CGI, choppy editing infused with ADHD and just terrible acting both from an action and dramatic sense. Hardly surprising, but it doesn't come close to the equivalent scene from William Wyler's classic; instead, it feels like they gave up trying to create anything remotely fitting of the period halfway through and have simply mushed the movie together in hope of making a quick buck on name recognition.

I could be wrong but... Jesus wept.

Ben-Hur is in US cinemas from 19th August (that's next week) and UK cinemas from 7th September.
