New Deadpool Trailer: 8 Major Revelations From Director Tim Miller

6. Why Colossus?

One comic book character who does appear to have been torn straight out of the source material is Colossus. Everything from his overall look to the Russian accent should be instantly familiar to fans, but of all the X-Men who could have been used in Deadpool, what made the metallic hero who was portrayed by Daniel Cudmore in such an underwhelming fashion in previous movies the right choice for this release? It turns out that Miller is a huge fan of the character, and seeing as he's being so faithfully replicated on screen here for the first time in his fourth or fifth appearance, perhaps that should have been obvious from the start. Even so, the director confirms that his presence "connects us to the X-Men universe too which is a good thing in small doses", and adds: "He was always this giant behemoth, and to do it as sort of a normal-size guy didn't seem to fit the character, and more importantly I think we got a lot of value out of him being larger than life and, you know, this fantastic physical presence in this otherwise very grounded film." "Grounded"? That's not a word which the majority of fans appreciate when it comes to these adaptations, but fear not, as it definitely sounds like this version of Colossus will be seeing plenty of action as the director went on to confirm that he'll be part of a pretty huge sounding fight scene in Deadpool's third act.
