New Deadpool Trailer: 8 Major Revelations From Director Tim Miller

5. Breaking The Fourth Wall

When it was revealed that Fox were finally making Deadpool a reality, there were two key ingredients which all of us were hoping wouldn't be left out because without them, this simply wouldn't be Deadpool. The first was of course his costume, while the second is obviously the Merc with the Mouth's hilarious habit of breaking the fourth wall. Thankfully, it sounds like it's going to be a huge part of the movie rather than something which only happens once or twice just to make fanboys happy, as Miller confirmed that it will actually have an even bigger presence than expected. "It was built in from the get-go, so it was kind of planned. We did go back when we did some additional photography. We liked it so much that we got even a little more. And we tried to use it more for an opportunity to just lay down exposition on people which I think is cool. Because you could use that as a crutch, but I don€™t think we did at all." That sounds great, but it seems like including something as huge as Deadpool breaking the forth wall meant that sacrifices had to be made elsewhere. Revealing that "I€™m sure I€™m going to get skewered by fans for one thing or another," Miller went on to confirm that the subject of Wade Wilson's mental issues isn't something we should expect to see factor into this story next year. "He€™s really complicated and there€™s stuff we couldn€™t - like the schizophrenia is a big thing in the comics, but you couldn't really explore that in the film. It was just too much to load into an origin story, an introduction." That's a fair point, and having Deadpool break the fourth wall is definitely a decent compromise, especially as the trailer makes it clear that he has some pretty major issues anyway.
