20 Announced Movie Sequels NOBODY Expected

2019's Crawl was a thoroughly entertaining creature feature which grossed an impressive $91 million worldwide against a laudably tight budget of just $15 million, but all the same, it seemed like a sure-fire one-and-done.

Regardless, director Alexandre Aja swiftly endorsed the idea of a sequel centred around a new set of characters, and by 2021 he confirmed that a script was being written.

Crawl 2 was officially announced in 2024 with Aja set to return in the director's chair, but even so, this seemed like one of those prospective sequels that just might malinger in development hell forevermore.

Last year the film was said to take place in a storm-ravaged New York City as a fleet of dangerous zoo animals are released, and though Paramount's merger with Skydance stalled development for a time, producer Sam Raimi recently expressed optimism that things would soon be back on track.

If Raimi's right, hopefully Crawl 2 might ramp up production before year's end.
