20 Recent Movies EVERYONE Knew Would Suck
6. Ladies First
Ella McCay isn't the only film on this list that feels like it was dropkicked into 2026 from a few decades back.
Ladies First is a high-concept workplace comedy in which a misogynistic executive (Sacha Baron Cohen) knocks himself out and wakes up in a matriarchal world where gender roles have effectively been flipped, leaving him working for his prior underling (Rosamund Pike).
Even if you can overlook how horrendously dated the premise sounds - not to hand-wave the ever-present sexism in workplaces - considering that the original French film on which it's based, I Am Not an Easy Man, was mediocre-at-best, a Hollywood redo didn't exactly set stellar expectations.
Nor did Netflix's trailer for the film, painting it as every bit the tired, unfunny glossy comedy it ultimately was.
There's absolutely a version of this concept that could've worked, but this blandly formulaic treatment just wasn't it. Well-intended? Perhaps, but that's not enough.
