New Mutants Movie: 10 X-Men Characters We Want To See

4. Cannonball

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No. And it€™s not Superman, either. New mutant, X-Man, Avenger; Sam Guthrie has, like a certain adamantium-clawed mutant I won€™t name, served on a lot of teams. The eldest of a large family from Kentucky, Guthrie is a Southern gent at heart with a strong work ethic and good manners. Sam€™s mutant power is the ability to fly at super speeds while surrounded by an impenetrable force field. The idea is that he€™s unstoppable as long as he can keep moving. He€™s basically Juggernaut in the sky. Queue all the jokes about hard-headed Southern men. Cannonball€™s powers and personality set him up as one of the most distinct and engaging characters in the X-Men family. His background and demeanour is very different from the majority of the movie line up. Because he€™s a bit of a joker, Sam could potentially be the source of the witty banter that often carries superhero movies during their quieter scenes. And because the personal relationships are so key for these situations, Sam€™s major friendship with teammate Sunspot could well serve a cornerstone of the new film. Cannonball is also the older brother of characters including Husk, Icarus, and Aero, among others. The fact that virtually every one of his seemingly numberless siblings is also a mutant provides an open door for new characters further down the line.

With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
