New Star Wars: The Last Jedi Footage - 6 Things We Just Learned

3. Luke Takes The Lightsaber From Rey

There were some who thought that Luke might initially refuse to take his lightsaber from Rey's outstretched hand, with the character possibly wishing to shun all things force-related after the fall of his Jedi Academy, but now it seems to be confirmed; he takes it in the film's opening moments.

Of course, he was always going to wield a saber at some point during the film - LucasFilm aren't stupid, they know what we want - but it was unknown whether this would be a big second/third-act turning point for the character, or an early shot of nostalgia for fans.

Now, it looks like it will be the latter. There's no way Disney would risk leaking a big moment from later in the film so we're guessing that Miller's referring to the final few moments in The Force Awakens, which will bleed directly into the next installment.

We've waited decades to see Luke to brandish a lightsaber again, but fortunately, it appears The Last Jedi will reward our patience early on.
