New writer to unlock this door with the key of imagination

It's a shame there is no desire from television networks to greenlight anthology formatted thirty minute shows anymore. Maybe it's the post-Lost and 24 era where everything has to be bigger and more intense and where stories are played out in such long assed fashion, you really have to dedicate a good portion of your life just to keep up but never really feel like you get to the end of things. That's maybe why I cherish my dvd sets of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone, in my opinion the best non connected narrative t.v. program ever made. Where each tale was told in one episode, each one you couldn't predict what genre/what theme/what characters or what journey you would take. But you did know it would all wrap up in one episode, and that would be it. Done. 600px-twilightzone1Variety have a quick update on the second attempt to make a big screen movie out of Serling's name, a film that was announced just a few days short of a year ago with Leonardo DiCaprio on board to produce. It seems they've had a change around of writer with scribe Joel Anderson leaving the project he had been working on for six months, with The Astronaut's Wife writer/director Rand Ravich taking his place. He was also the creator of the t.v. show Life. Still not much more word on what the plan is with the adaptation, but I hate the idea of a bunch of three or four different short stories which interconnect with one another. That's how I kinda imagine this idea will fly, with maybe a few well known directors brought on board and with one of the stories probably revolving around a character DiCaprio will play. What I would suggest is adapting ONE classic episode into a feature and if that works, move onto another quickly giving them The Twilight Zone name tag. The magnificent Moon is kind of a Twilight Zone esque movie... a psychological film like that would work just fine. We already know they are adapting two shows from the great writer Richard Matheson- The Box (out in October) and Countdown. That's the way to do it. rockwell-moon-21 And if the first one works, you can have maybe two or three in production every year. Or of course better yet. Why not go the old Twilight Zone/Star Trek route and hire 20 of the best science fiction writers to come up with original concepts or adaptations of great sci-fi yarn, and have a series that we just don't see on t.v. anymore. A modern day version of what Rod Serling created way back when. That's what I would do anyway. And DiCaprio as a Serling-esque host sounds as good as anyone else.
