News I must have missed. Russell Brand's getting his own biopic!

So here I am going through the literally hundreds of Youtube clips from the events of last night's WonderCon (why they don't officially film it and put everything online I don't know) when I stumble across an interview Russell Brand was giving about the upcoming Judd Apatow movie FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. If you remember, that was the movie which looked pretty damn funny from the trailer but probably gave you worry heart palpations when you realised Russell Brand had a leading part. Anyway here's the vid - and then we will get back to chatting in just a bit... (his character is a sub-a-matic merman? - what the hell does that mean?)

A biopic? At 32? Directed from acclaimed helmer Michael Winterbottom who gave us A MIGHTY HEART last year?

REALLY?

So I search google and find that this news is about two weeks old. And it's really happening. A film version of his best selling autobiography My Booky Wook, with Brand set to star in the lead role as himself! Here's the scoop from The Daily Mail...

€œI don't think it will be called My Filmy Wilm,€ joked Andrew Eaton, the film's producer.

Eaton said he and business partner Winterbottom had long been fans of the comic's outrageous brand of humour. Once they read My Booky Wook, they saw the potential for a film about Brand's exploits as an adult which would explore his incessant use of narcotics and what Brand terms as his €œcarnal overindulgences€.

Casting other roles won't begin until the script is completed. Winterbottom hopes to get the cameras rolling at the end of the year or early in 2009.

And the way the movie industry works just keeps baffling me.
