Next Bond Director: 8 Best & 4 Worst Directors To Replace Danny Boyle

3. Gareth Edwards

Gareth Edwards is by no means a bad director, but it's the circumstances of his last gig that make him a somewhat problematic consideration at this stage of his career.

Edwards might have taken the Rogue One situation well - with suggestions that he was essentially undermined in the final cut of the film by the hiring of Tony Gilroy, who was hired as a "fixer" - but the perception attached to him being hired by a studio who might be looking for a film-maker they can guide to make the film THEY want probably isn't the best publicity for Bond 25. On top of that, him leaving the Godzilla sequel - whether amicably or not - is not a good look.

There may be an opportunity further down the road for Edwards, who is a great director, but for now, let's see him taking on a smaller project to find his flow again and make a statement about his film-making identity.
