Next Bond Director: 8 Best & 4 Worst Directors To Replace Danny Boyle

2. Sam Mendes

Back in 2016, Sam Mendes departed the Bond franchise with a fairly simple statement:

“It was an incredible adventure, I loved every second of it. But I think it’s time for somebody else.”

He's correct and that's precisely why the studio absolutely should not go back to the director, no matter how well he did. Skyfall was stunning and Spectre was still a very good film, despite it being one of the more divisive Bond films of the modern era, but it absolutely is time for something new.

If Daniel Craig saw the experience of working on Spectre so terribly, the studio then hiring the director who put him through the ringer for his swansong wouldn't look great either. Whether he'd be a safe pair of hands or not.
