Nick Fury: 10 Ramifications His Disney+ Series Could Have For The Marvel Cinematic Universe

S.H.I.E.L.D. was first mentioned in 2008's Iron Man, and the spy organisation continued being teased right up until 2012's The Avengers when Earth's Mightiest Heroes boarded the Helicarrier and joined Nick Fury in his crusade. However, two years later, Marvel Studios oddly chose to end S.H.I.E.L.D. thanks to the emergence of HYDRA in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

S.H.I.E.L.D. lived on in ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, but not in a way that really did what fans had seen in the movies justice, or the comic books for that matter.

If this really ends up being Fury's final mission - bear in mind that Samuel L. Jackson is now 71 years of age - then his final act could be to bring S.H.I.E.L.D. back, and leave a legacy which ensures the Marvel Cinematic Universe is safe in his absence.

It would be no bad thing having them rise from the ashes moving into Phase 5, though, as there are tonnes of stories Marvel Studios never got around to telling. Sure, Fury wouldn't be in charge moving forward, but bringing the group back in itself would be a massive deal.
