Nick Fury: 10 Ramifications His Disney+ Series Could Have For The Marvel Cinematic Universe

9. Passing The Mantle To A New "Nick Fury"

Wolverine Nick Fury
Marvel Comics

In the comic books, Nick Fury was white. It wasn't until Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch's The Ultimates (following a version of The Avengers on an alternate universe) that a Black version of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Director was introduced... it just so happened that his appearance was based on Samuel L. Jackson!

Marvel Studios casting the actor in Iron Man was a decision obviously inspired by that series, but years later, Marvel Comics made the bizarre decision to replace Nick Fury... with Nick Fury Jr. in the main 616 continuity. In an extremely convoluted move, it was revealed that Nick had a son who served in the military and, coincidentally, ended up losing his eye while on the run from his father's enemies.

By the time all was said and done, he had become the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and, well, the whole thing was pretty dumb.

However, Marvel Studios could deliver a much better version of that story, introducing a new "Nick Fury", albeit in a far less ridiculous way. A new actor could take over the role - an explanation as to how will come a little later here - or he could indeed have a son who teams up with him in this show!
