Nick Nolte: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Dr David Banner - Hulk

Frazzled, mumbling and prone to bouts of rage himself, Nolte's take on papa Hulk is a role that is perhaps best forgotten. As David Banner, Nolte tramples through scenes of angst, anger and shouty monologues as his character struggles to come to terms with his past and the changes happening to his son. At the time this film was released, critics were kind to all of the performances that helmer Ang Lee coaxed out of his cast, but on repeated viewings it's Nolte's crumpled performance that comes off the worst, where for the most part he seems uncomfortable and unable to find some semblance to his character. In a round about way you can't help but blame him for the killer poodles, too.
