Nicolas Cage: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Johnny Blaze/Ghost Rider - Ghost Rider & Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance (2007 & 2012)
Nicolas Cage is a noted fan of the Ghost Rider comics and actually has a tattoo of the character on his left arm. It's no surprise, then, that he would have been interested portraying him in a big budget Hollywood film. Cage entered negotiations to play the role way back in 2001 but delays in production meant that cameras didn't roll until the summer of 2006. Considering how excited Cage was to play Blaze/Ghost Rider (he even took a leave of absence from filming The Weather Man at one point before production was postponed again), it's a shame how the film, and his performance, turned out. Neither was very good. One of the worst comic book films of the decade, Cage went down the route of doing some sort of odd Elvis Presley imitation, similar to his performance in Wild at Heart (although nowhere near as rewarding). Cage was nominated for a Razzie for Worst Actor for his work here. Cage doubled his luck in 2012 when he was nominated yet again for the film's sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which managed to somehow be even worse than the original. After the critical lashing that film received, Cage said he was 'done' with Ghost Rider. Tender mercies, and all that.
