7. The Secret of Madeleine & Blofeld

This one can be a little messy to piece together, what with the studio and producers not even sure if Blofeld was going to return - with him at one point going to be killed off at the end of Spectre.

Though they just about manage to tie enough threads together to warrant his return and effectively make Safin almost redundant. Blofeld is here to bring both Bond and Madeleine back together and fulfil his promise that Madeleine would "be the death of you". Of course, this can seem like the narrative grasping at stings here, but it is poetic enough to let slide.

Madeleine, however, who was once the daughter of Spectre is very much the end of it. What with Safin using their connected fate to get Project Heracles into Blofeld via a fatal touch of Bond. This would go on to seal his fate and become the most shocking franchise-changing event of recent history.

Madeleine Swann’s return was not only a first for a Bond Girl, but perhaps the single greatest shift for Double O Seven yet - for better or worst. She completes Bond and transforms him from a cold-hearted killer, to a loving father, even if it doesn’t last that long.
