R-Point takes place during the Vietnam War, with a South Korean squad sent out to investigate a mysterious radio signal. After they're besieged by supernatural phenomena, the soldiers are terrified they might lose their minds... or their lives.

Instead of using generic, spooky tropes, every paranormal encounter is tied to a specific soldier's past. As such, themes surrounding shame, guilt, and trauma are explored in depth, making every conflict feel that much more personal.

It soon becomes clear the squad won't be undone by the spirits but by themselves. As revelations are unearthed and paranoia sets in, the group prove to be more dangerous to each other than the ghosts ever were.

It's also refreshing how R-Point focuses on subtle atmosphere and existential dread, not gratuitous gore or forced jump-scares. However, there's always the feeling that a traditional scare is coming, meaning there's little opportunity to relax.

Rather than having a grand reveal in the climax, it's never explained how much of these events actually happened or only existed in the soldiers' minds. This amplifies the uncertainty, which is sure to leave viewers well and truly rattled long after the credits roll.
