Ocean's 8 Review: 5 Ups And 4 Downs

3. The Group's Dynamic And Chemistry

Oceans 8 2000

In order for an Ocean's series movie to work, the group chemistry has to be there or else the movie can't work. Thankfully, the group dynamic is clearly there, as is the chemistry, and it ensures that this movie works. The characters are there, they each offer something different to the dynamic, and their interactions with one another consistently makes up much of the movie's highlight moments.

This is due in large part to the group's clear chemistry with one another. Everyone has one-liners that bounce back-and-forth, leading to entertaining banter that avoids feeling forced. These are actresses that are definitely come across as comfortable with one another, allowing certain lines (that feel improved) to work better than they would've with less game scene partners.

Although there was obviously an effort to add in some comparable star power to the other films in the series, the film simply wouldn't have worked out quite as well with a different group of women. These extremely-talented women are the primary reason why this movie works, and their chemistry and give-and-take when playing off each other helps the prospect of a sequel feel a lot more desirable than it otherwise would be.
