Once Upon A Deadpool Review: 4 Ups & 5 Downs

2. The PG-13 Rating Is Mostly Pointless

Once Upon A Deadpool's PG-13 rating is obviously a commercial calculation in order to milk some more box office money from youngsters who were too young to catch the R-rated Deadpool 2 in cinemas.

But ultimately the neutered rating seems relatively pointless, because aren't most of these kids going to have seen the movie on Blu-ray months ago?

And in the case of the UK, the film ended up being rated "15" anyway and was screened after 8pm, placing a limit on the ability of youngsters to see it regardless.

There are obviously substantial edits to the movie's violent content, colourful language and drug references in particular, but it seems probable that most of the ticket sales will be for repeat adult viewers.

In which instance why not just release a Christmas-themed R-rated Director's Cut with alternate takes and the same new wraparound story?

It's just an incredibly bizarre approach, and obviously counter to the entire ethos of these new, adult-targeted Deadpool movies.
