Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Trailer Reactions: 6 Ups & 2 Downs
5. The Music
It just wouldn't be a Quentin Tarantino movie without some memorable music: the director's ability to marry pop-songs to action is one of his greatest strengths, and the trailer is very much playing on that with a couple of tracks that feel quintessentially Quentin.
The first song we hear is the intro to Straight Shooter by The Mamas and the Papas, taken from their 1966 album If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears. Following that, the song we hear throughout most of the trailer is Bring a Little Lovin', recorded by Los Bravos and released in 1968.
Both songs are absolutely and perfectly in sync with the time that Tarantino is capturing here, without being too on-the-nose. They fit with the grooviness of the era, lyrically they make sense with the tone and ideas at play, and also they're both just a couple of bangers. It's unclear whether the songs will be in the finished film, but if this is where Tarantino is looking, we won't be disappointed either way. Mama Cass, of The Mamas and the Papas, also appears in the film - it appears to be her briefly seen at a party with Tate - which adds a nice meta nod to the musical choice as well.
