One Mind Blowing Secret From Every MCU Movie
12. Filming Could Not Take Place In Hawaii - Eternals
For all the attention Eternals received for being the first "Rotten" MCU film on Rotten Tomatoes and earning far more criticism than praise (some of which was more relevant than others), there can be no denying that it is beautifully shot.
The stunning, picturesque locations across the Canary Islands lent Eternals an unmatched aesthetic. However, there was one rule imposed on Chloé Zhao when it came to filming.
Namely, as per The Reign of Marvel Studios, no part of Eternals was allowed to be filmed in Hawaii. When Moon Knight was specifically moved away from a New York setting, this made sense, as the city has been completely overused throughout the franchise, but Hawaii had not. Instead, as a shooting location, it was ruined by ABC's Inhumans, one of the most reviled and hated MCU projects of all time.
Also about a new race of Marvel characters not before seen anywhere else in the franchise, Marvel Studios was concerned about any more parallels being drawn between the Eternals and Inhumans, and so Inhumans' home was officially off the table for Eternals. Luckily, this didn't much matter, because the movie didn't need it.
