7. The Oscar Nominated Jackass Series
And you thought Two Time Oscar Nominee Jonah Hill was going to be the strangest phrase to be spawned by this set of nominations. This one is kinda deserved so we shouldn't act too surprised, but it feels weird to see Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa rub shoulders with American Hustle. The central conceit of the latest outing for Johnny Knoxville is essentially Borat with wrinkles; the prankster dressed up as an old man and wreaking havoc over America with his 'grandson'. An odd direction to take the series in, it connected with fans and, holding his own alongside the outrageous pensioner, young Jackson Nicoll impressed as the on-screen grandson. But today all eyes were on Knoxville and the process that aged him forty years. It may not be a major award and a fellow nominee may be The Lone Ranger, but seeing Bad Grandpa on the list at all is a completely unexpected treat. Even though the film wasnt remarkable, it feels rebellious to see the series up for gold.
