Oscar Nominations 2019: 6 Ups & 9 Downs
2. Black Panther Misses Out On Best Visual Effects
After it became clear that the Academy was going all-in with their love for Black Panther, it seemed probable that the film might end up landing a Best Visual Effects nomination...despite the movie's low-rent CGI being its most complained-about element.
Though Black Panther made the ten-film shortlist, it thankfully didn't land an arbitrary nomination, with the final five instead consisting of Avengers: Infinity War, Christopher Robin, First Man, Ready Player One and Solo: A Star Wars Story. That's a pretty solid bunch, in honesty.
The important thing is that Black Panther got its Best Picture nomination, but knowing the Academy's tendency to give a movie everything or nothing, it would've been frustrating to see the film nominated here over so many more visually appealing prospects.
