Oscar Nominations 2019: 6 Ups & 9 Downs

8. Snubbed: First Man For Best Original Score

There were a number of notable snubs in the Best Original Score category this year - Mary Queen of Scots and Suspiria both deserved to make the cut - but there's one especially egregious omission, and that's Justin Hurwitz's much-loved score for First Man.

The two-time Oscar winner is a big part of the reason that First Man's jaw-dropping Moon landing sequence is as powerful as it is, and for him to miss the cut here despite a mighty campaign over the last few months is just ridiculous.

Were the scores for Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman, If Beale Street Could Talk, Isle of Dogs and Mary Poppins Returns all really better than this? Absolutely not.
