Oscar Nominations 2019: 6 Ups & 9 Downs

6. No Technical Nominations For Mission: Impossible - Fallout

Mission: Impossible - Fallout was never going to be up for major Oscars, but considering that it's arguably the most technically accomplished blockbuster of the summer, it's shocking that the film didn't receive even a single nod.

Fallout was absolutely deserving of a Best Film Editing nomination - a category where tentpole movies can sometimes thrive - yet the Academy bafflingly felt that Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book and Vice were all more deserving...somehow.

And then there's Sound Editing and Sound Mixing, which are action-friendly categories where Fallout was unquestionably worthy, yet it was beaten out by the likes of Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody, A Quiet Place and Roma.

Considering that Bohemian Rhapsody couldn't even convincingly sync up Rami Malek's mouth movements with the music half the time, was its editing and sound work really better than Fallout's glorious sensory assault?
