Oscar Nominations 2021: 7 Ups & 8 Downs
6. Best Supporting Actor's Blatant Category Fraud
The Best Supporting Actor field is absolutely mighty this year, though one big surprise came in the way of Lakeith Stanfield's nomination for his superb turn in Judas and the Black Messiah.
Given that he was nominated in the category alongside co-star Daniel Kaluuya, the question soon arises - if they're both supporting, who the hell is the lead?
As deserving as Stanfield's performance is of a nomination, this is a clear-cut case of category fraud, the actor being pushed to the less-crowded supporting field because he doesn't have a chance of breaking into the lead field.
Though it's still a deserving nomination and he edged out only Jared Leto (The Little Things) and Chadwick Boseman (Da 5 Bloods), it's still a totally ridiculous cheat at the end of the day.
