Oscar Nominations 2023: 8 Ups & 9 Downs
1. Shock: Bryan Tyree Henry (Best Supporting Actor)
There have been passionate fans banging the drum for Bryan Tyree Henry all season long, but it was still a huge long shot that he'd manage to secure a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his outstanding work on Apple's trauma drama Causeway.
But Henry indeed scored a surprise nomination, edging out serious competition from the likes of Paul Dano (The Fabelmans), Ben Whishaw (Women Talking), Eddie Redmayne (The Good Nurse), and Brad Pitt (Babylon).
It speaks to the brilliance of Henry's performance and also his enduring tenure as one of the most impressive rising stars of his generation. You love to see it.
