Oscars: 10 Films That Should Have Won Best Picture (But Didn't)
1. Pulp Fiction
One of the most referenced films of all time, Pulp Fiction is still influencing modern filmmakers to this day, being Tarantino’s true masterpiece. Pulp Fiction is stuffed with iconic scenes, superb dialogue and a soundtrack that you could win Jack Rabbit Slim’s Twist contest to.
After Reservoir Dogs, this was the film that really put the name Tarantino on everyone’s mind and secured his legendary film career. It seems inconceivable that a film of this stature could manage to lose out on the prestigious award.
While Forrest Gump was a worthy competitor, full of just as many, if not more quotable quips, it pales in comparison to a film that is so engrained in modern pop-culture, even after twenty-five years. “Zed’s Dead”, “Go get the Gimp”, the best wallet in the world, Ezekiel 25:17 to name a few, encapsulate why Pulp Fiction captured the hearts and minds of so many film lovers.
Stepping aside from the pop-culture references, Pulp Fiction takes an excellent blend of natural story progression, comedy, drama, and most importantly a unique sense of style that make it stand apart from most films, and not just the other nominees in the Oscars of 1995.
