Right out of the gate, this film has "Oscar" being whispered in close proximity of its name. The fact that it was actually a good movie is only further bolstering its chances at winning big. Indeed, Ben Affleck has been in career rehab mode since taking the director's chair on Gone Baby Gone. Throw in The Town (which gained Jeremy Renner a Best Supporting Actor nod), as well as this film itself, and you've got a career trajectory plotted for greatness. Affleck's surely been testing the fences with both of his previous films (both adaptations of best-selling novels), but now he's swung for the fences with a historically-minded hit. It also helps that Affleck's star powered cast of both past and present prestige are on form for every second of the running time. (Three words: "Producer George Clooney"). Yes, Argo's been the front runner since early in the race: it's time for it to get crowned. What do you think? Are these films destined for Oscar glory? Let us know in the comments section below.
