2. Anna Karenina f0r Best Original Score
Once again I apologize for my unabashed love for Anna Karenina: I truly believe it is one of the more underappreciated films of the year, and though I had expected it to be shut out of the major categories, I am glad it managed to land very well-deserved nominations in the various technical categories in which it excelled. Particularly worthy of note is Dario Marianelli's sweeping, tantalizing score. Mixing in classical melodies with more modern leitmotifs, Marianelli may have even outdone his own Oscar-winning work on his previous collaboration with director Joe Wright, Atonement. In any case, I am really glad the score got the recognition it deserved, and am hoping it may even result in another win for the composer!
